Taking down the Christmas decorations in January can be a sad time for some, but at W6 Garden Centre we like to look at what we can do with the empty space that is left. Here is our guide to keeping the decorative spirit of Christmas going well into the New Year.

The Christmas tree might be down, but a large houseplant or indoor tree is the perfect replacement. They provide excellent value for money compared to the short-lived Christmas tree. We love Monstera for its giant, jungle-style leaves and it is so easy to care for too – all it needs is a warm room and a weekly water. We have the much scarcer variegated form in store now. Palms are another great plant for some elegant indoor architecture. There are so many varieties to choose from that you will be sure to find the perfect one for your home.

We love bringing the outdoors in, especially in winter. Dark green leaves provide vibrant, fresh colour and pots and ornaments made with natural, bare materials like wood and terracotta add rustic style and a sense of calm to any room. Try teaming a terracotta pot with the newly bred Helleborous ‘Verboom Beauty’. Traditionally a garden plant, this variety will do exceptionally well indoors and can be planted out after flowering.

Whilst we were selling the last of our Christmas trees I was putting the finishing touches together of our Spring/Summer 17 collection. Inspiration comes from the woven and handmade trends and if you loved our ‘Tribal Mix’ collection in Summer 16 you will be pleased to hear that we will be adding more decorative objects and pots to this theme.

Have a fabulous 2017!
